Ibec Europe & Global Focus - March 2017

The editorial of this issue addresses preparations for the UK's withdrawal from the EU and an unfamiliar agenda in the United States from the perspective of Irish business. As the EU prepares to mark its sixtieth anniversary we highlight the business view on the future of Europe and stress the need for the EU's Stability and Growth Pact (SGP) to allow for full flexibility to member states who wish to increase infrastructure and pro-growth expenditure.

Articles in this issue highlight mounting concerns as the UK reveals a 'hard' Brexit plan, profile the new President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, and cover important developments in European economy and finance policy, international trade and global affairs, the latest set of proposals to boost the single market in services, the digital economy, energy emissions and Brexit's potential impact on Irish ports.

Ibec's EU events and advocacy activities over the winter period included a high profile event in Brussels debating the future of Irish business in a changed world and Ibec sponsorship of the 2016 Business Day at the OECD in Paris, both of which included key note addresses by Ibec President, Anne Heraty.
